Hello! I have decided to share more of my breakfast ideas with you on the blog. I do share a breakfast idea at least once a week on my Instagram account, but usually the emphasis is on the image and the styling and recipe is not so detailed. This is why I will be sharing this recipe for a simple beetroot smoothie bowl. If you want to have a wholesome breakfast with a difference then this recipe for a beetroot smoothie bowl is definitely worth a try.
Breakfast smoothie bowls are very popular in the health food world. It is a great way to get more vegetables into your breakfast. It is made in a jiffy as everything is added into a blender and whizzed to perfection. It can also be perfect for those on vegan or paleo diets as it is dairy free. The thing to note is not to add too many fruits. Fruits added here are for sweetness, added thickness and flavour. Too many fruits who lead to an unnecessary addition of sugar into your diet, which is not a healthy option. Hence it is always important to keep the fruit portion limited and add more vegetables.
I made this vibrant breakfast bowl with beetroot. It is one of my favourite vegetables to add in sweeter recipes. I love it for its colour, its anti-oxidant and fibre levels and its flavour. If you can get your hands on some organic beetroot then it would be perfect. If not, make sure you scrub your beetroot clean, cut of the tops and peel completely before using it in your recipes. I made this beetroot smoothie bowl with the addition of oats and chia seeds. This adds a good dose of protein and carbohydrates. It also helps the smoothie to become a little more creamy and dense. This way it makes a very filling and satisfying breakfast. I have used ripe banana as a the fruit in this bowl. I have also added a handful of nuts for added fat and creaminess. I wanted to make the ingredients very simple in this bowl because I want to ensure that my recipes are more accessible and easy to make.
I have topped my beetroot smoothie bowl with pitaya balls, strawberry hearts and marigold flowers. You can use any fruit as additional topping. This is an optional topping and not really required.
This beetroot smoothie bowl recipe is also perfect to have a mid day snack or a post work out drink. Just make it a little thinner by adding more water, pour it into a glass or bottle and you are ready to go!
